Overview
Overview As a Rotordynamics Engineer, you will play an integral role in the development of Joby's rotordynamics load criteria. This position requires a solid mathematical and engineering background in aeronautical/aerospace disciplines, with a specific focus on rotordynamics and aircraft dynamics. You will operate in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with flight physics, testing, airframe, and certification teams to solve complex issues and certify our cutting-edge VTOL aircraft. Responsibilities Modeling & Development: Develop external loads, rotordynamic models, and aerodynamic databases for propeller/aeroelastic simulations. Analysis: Create multi-body analysis simulations and implement rotordynamic loads databases for structural and propeller design teams. Validation: Interpret experimental data to correlate and validate aircraft aeroelastic models. Testing Support: Support flight, ground, and laboratory testing for model development and empirical certification loads. Certification: Determine certification basis, establish compliance strategies, and develop/review certification-related documentation. Mentorship: Work with and mentor engineering teams across diverse aerospace and non-aerospace backgrounds. Required Education: B.S. in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline. Experience: 3+ years of rotor or propeller loads and dynamics experience in industry or post-graduate research pertinent to the position Technical Expertise: * Excellent understanding of aircraft loads and aeroelasticity. Proficiency in NASTRAN, ABAQUS, RCAS, UMARC , or similar aeroelastic tools. Effective with MATLAB, Python, Bash, and Excel . Systems: Ability to use High-Performance Computing (HPC) assets (Compute clusters / Linux). Desired Advanced Degree: M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. Experience: 6+ years of detailed loads analysis for fixed-wing aircraft or rotorcraft. Industry Knowledge: 2+ years in aircraft certification (FAR/EASA 27 or Military Cert compliance). Regulatory: Experience with aircraft or rotorcraft certification, experience with developing/authoring certification documentation and/or interpreting engineering specifications. Advanced Skills: * Demonstrated ability to quantify aircraft/component external loads. Experience correlating load models using experimental data. Extensive HPC or cloud computing skillsets.
